We had a great meeting yesterday. I'm glad to see so many regular faces.
@ango led a great discussion on the mindset regarding vehicle preparedness. Some of the items we covered were:
Do you know alternate routes to work and home?
How do you store reserve gasoline properly in case outages effect gas stations? How much do you store? How long does it last?
Do you keep a change of clothes in your vehicle with proper footwear?
Do you have 1-2 days of water and food in your vehicle in case you can't get home right away?
Keep a tire repair kit and compressor in your vehicle.
Remember that a vehicle is about mobility. It is how you bug into your home and also how you will bug out to a secondary location if you need to. Keeping your vehicle in good shape is critical to maintaining a lifeline for your family. Creating distance between yourselves and an aggressive group is one of the best ways to stay safe.
We also covered knot tying. @deusvult gave us some great knots to practice. They are:
Bowline (https://tinyurl.com/y5lopgmv)
One-Way Sheet Bend (https://tinyurl.com/y452g5np)
Figure 8 (https://tinyurl.com/y6knk263) and (https://tinyurl.com/y4hrqztn)
Prusik (https://tinyurl.com/yydsss68)
Clove hitch (https://tinyurl.com/y2367qod)
Trucker's Hitch (https://tinyurl.com/y35xkh5v)
Water Knot for webbing (https://tinyurl.com/y425byz7)
Now some of your are thinking, "Why do I need so many knots?" There come times when we will need to pull vehicles, help people up inclines, raise and lower things to rooftops, and many other times. When those times come you want to have a few knots you can tie in your sleep that will do the job properly. Using the wrong knot can lead to more problems like injuring the person you're trying to help, which may be one of us.
You can practice these knots when you have a little time, when sitting in a meeting, or sitting at soccer practice. Just put a 18" piece of paracord in your pocket.
