We had a good, albeit cold, training day yesterday. There were a total of 10 of us and we got some radio and land nav practice in. Thank you to everyone who attended, without you it wouldn't have been such a good day.
The learning goals were:
Land Nav Basics
-- Measure pace count on level, inclining, and declining ground.
-- Navigate with satellite imagery
-- Satellite images are more common because of phone use, not ideal for
land navigation but can be used if needed.
-- A screenshot of an area can be stored for use offline.
-- Can often get higher resolution than available topo maps
-- Learn how to relate distances being paced off to satellite image features.
-- Confirm distances with your personal pace count.
Radio Communication
-- How to act as part of a Directed Net
-- General Radio etiquette
-- Clearly communicate numbers and words
-- Execute instructions delivered via radio
-- Act as net control for other teams when you can't see them and you need
to provide timely, accurate, information.
Team and Individual Building
-- Working in small groups to accomplish a goal
-- Working with people outside of your usual team mates
-- Helping someone on your team learn a new skill
-- Building comfort with new skills
A special thanks to @Sheepdog89, @IrishDiesel, and @Cpcoh for their help in organizing the materials and events. It wouldn't have happened without their help.
