Any radio operator needs to be aware if the three factors that improve radio efficiency and reach. They are Elevation, Antenna, and Power. Because radio operate on line of sight you need to understand these factors.
Elevation and power are fairly intuitive, but what about antenna? Buying a better antenna is a great first start. But most rubber ducky or whip antennas are missing half of what they need to be a full antenna, a ground plane. With a mag mount antenna there is an easy way to create one that is portable and stores in a small volume. The design is linked below. It takes about 10$ of hardware and 15 mins to make.
If you have an antenna analyzer you’ll see a significant difference in SWR wiggle using it. If you don’t have an analyzer, you’ll notice that you can reach further and have less static.
There is going to be a hand to hand Self Defense workshop on Tuesday the 17th from 7pm - 9 pm. It is being taught by a martial arts school specialized in hand to hand defense.
